3 Tips to Relieve Your Back Pain Immediately
In a recent blog post, licensed Physical Therapist and Health Coach Carol Bercaw shared her personal experience with back and neck pain as a busy mom. She understands the struggle of juggling multiple responsibilities and not having time to prioritize self-care. Bercaw emphasizes the importance of getting out of the chair as the first step to relieving back pain. By standing up regularly, the pressure on the lumbar disc can be reduced and muscles and ligaments are given a chance to relax.

The next step is stretching. Bercaw suggests arching the back backwards slowly three times after standing up, which can provide immediate relief. Additionally, incorporating more movement throughout the day, such as walking or using a copier farther away from the desk, can help alleviate pain. Using a lumbar cushion while sitting can also minimize strain on the back. Bercaw recommends a firm foam cushion for optimal support.

By prioritizing posture, staying active, incorporating stretching, and using ergonomic aids, busy moms can manage and even reduce back pain. Taking care of oneself ultimately benefits the entire family. So, for all the moms out there, remember to get out of that chair!

      As a Mom of three now grown children, (and also a new "Nana!"), I know your struggles with pain, stress, fatigue and anxiety. I know what it’s like to come home after being away all day working, exhausted and hurting and trying to be the best wife and mother possible. I was there once myself!

     My heart’s desire is to help you lead pain free, healthy, strong and vibrant lives as wives, mothers, professionals and leaders in your community. When you have pain anywhere, esp neck or back pain, it can overshadow all your other desires and activities. And why is it that we seem to always put everyone else around us first and consider ourselves last? I think it is important to “consider others before yourself” but I also think you can be a better wife and mother without pain, crushing anxiety and exhaustion. 
 
      But how to do this?!? It is so important that you do not ignore the pain you are feeling, both physically and emotionally. Pain is there for a reason and we need to find the root cause of it. 
     That is where I can help. As a physical therapist for over 30 years, I specialize in relieving physical pain and teaching my clients how to maintain this state of being and thrive.

Meet Carol Bercaw

 
     Hi! My name is Carol and I’m a married mom to three, now grown kids! I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart Jeff for 38 years and now I’m a new Nana! I’ve been a Physical Therapist for over 30 years and a Certified Health Coach. I have been in your shoes with neck and back pain myself and have overcome it! This makes me uniquely qualified to help you! My passion is to help working moms  naturally  feel their best, live pain free and find vibrant health so they can carry out their dreams!
     Life was going at top speed as I tried to do it all and do it well! I was homeschooling 3 children, doing all household chores, cooking healthy from scratch and working part time! I had “plates spinning” all over the place. But I was stressed and exhausted, living on caffeine and sugary Star Bucks lattes just to get through the day. I was even yawning in my patients faces in the afternoon!
     Then things went from bad to worse. Out of the blue I had neck and jaw pain (TMJ) that rocked my world. I really began to struggle.Have you every felt that way?  I felt like I was letting my family down. I felt as if I wasn’t being a good enough mother and wife or a good enough PT at work! I was already spread thin and now with pain I literally couldn’t exercise or sleep and I honestly felt awful!
     Then two important things happened.
 I got some additional help with my neck and jaw pain and it finally went away. (You know even physical therapists need therapists!) Next, my good friend Cathy told me about a natural source of energy and I was able to ditch the coffee and caffeine! I started sleeping better and, oh boy, I had more energy to do my work, as well as be with my kids and not be a grump every day!
     Today I am still just as busy working and being a fun-loving Nana to little Olivia, although I still have trials I face! I have found natural ways to bring down my stress and fatigue and I can live the life I feel called to live, serving you, as a Certified National Health Coach and Physical Therapist (in the state of Florida). There are many experts in this field, however, they typically do not have the personal experience I can bring to the table, both as a therapist, health coach and mom. I am here for you! If you are ready to be free of the pain, fatigue and stress, I look forward to helping you live the life you want so you can thrive!
