Meet Carol Bercaw

 
     Hi! My name is Carol and I’m a married mom to three, now grown kids! I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart Jeff for 38 years and now I’m a new Nana! I’ve been a Physical Therapist for over 30 years and a Certified Health Coach. I have been in your shoes with neck and back pain myself and have overcome it! This makes me uniquely qualified to help you! My passion is to help working moms  naturally  feel their best, live pain free and find vibrant health so they can carry out their dreams!
     Life was going at top speed as I tried to do it all and do it well! I was homeschooling 3 children, doing all household chores, cooking healthy from scratch and working part time! I had “plates spinning” all over the place. But I was stressed and exhausted, living on caffeine and sugary Star Bucks lattes just to get through the day. I was even yawning in my patients faces in the afternoon!
     Then things went from bad to worse. Out of the blue I had neck and jaw pain (TMJ) that rocked my world. I really began to struggle.Have you every felt that way?  I felt like I was letting my family down. I felt as if I wasn’t being a good enough mother and wife or a good enough PT at work! I was already spread thin and now with pain I literally couldn’t exercise or sleep and I honestly felt awful!
     Then two important things happened.
 I got some additional help with my neck and jaw pain and it finally went away. (You know even physical therapists need therapists!) Next, my good friend Cathy told me about a natural source of energy and I was able to ditch the coffee and caffeine! I started sleeping better and, oh boy, I had more energy to do my work, as well as be with my kids and not be a grump every day!
     Today I am still just as busy working and being a fun-loving Nana to little Olivia, although I still have trials I face! I have found natural ways to bring down my stress and fatigue and I can live the life I feel called to live, serving you, as a Certified National Health Coach and Physical Therapist (in the state of Florida). There are many experts in this field, however, they typically do not have the personal experience I can bring to the table, both as a therapist, health coach and mom. I am here for you!      Being a working mom is no easy feat. Juggling between career demands and family responsibilities can often take a toll on both your physical and mental well-being. One common challenge that many working moms face is back pain. I see this daily in my own practice. Whether it's from sitting at a desk all day, lifting children, or managing household chores, back pain can significantly impact daily life. However, I have good news – physical activity can be a powerful tool in managing and even preventing back pain. In this blog, we'll explore the numerous benefits of physical activity for working moms struggling with back pain.
1.Strengthening Core Muscles: Engaging in regular physical activity, particularly exercises that target the core muscles, can help strengthen the muscles that support the spine. Strong core muscles provide better stability and support for the spine, reducing the risk of strain and injury. Simple exercises like planks, bridges, and squats can be incorporated into a busy schedule and yield significant benefits over time.

 2.Improving Posture: Poor posture is a common contributor to back pain, especially for individuals who spend long hours sitting at a desk or hunched over electronic devices. Regular physical activity, including activities that focus on posture and alignment, such as yoga or Pilates, can help correct postural imbalances and alleviate back pain.      4. Relieving Stress and Tension: The demands of balancing work and family life can often lead to high levels of stress and tension, which can definitely exacerbate back pain. Physical activity, particularly aerobic exercises like walking, jogging, or swimming, can help alleviate stress and tension by releasing endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals. These exercises not only provide a mental health boost but also help relax tight muscles and promote better blood flow to the back area, reducing pain and discomfort. Try walking first if you haven’t done much in the way of physical activity before now.
